Archery
Hold, aim and release.
How to play Archery
Settle your aim, read the wind and learn the six formats.
Hold, aim and release
Press on the range and hold to draw the bow. Move your finger to place the sight, then release to shoot. Holding builds draw strength; moving changes only your aim. Use the same gesture with a mouse or trackpad.
Full draw takes 1.8 seconds. It stays full until five seconds, then begins to weaken. At eight seconds the arrow releases automatically. A quick tap does not shoot; a weak draw can fall short and score zero.
Distance and wind
Check the distance and wind before each arrow. The sight is set for a full draw at the displayed range. An incomplete or weakened draw drops below that aim. Crosswind pushes the arrow sideways, so aim against it.
Target, Speed, Moving target and No wind change between 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 metres. Distance and Elimination use their own ladders. Players face the same conditions for the corresponding arrow. In Moving target, aim ahead of the face to allow for flight time.
Rings and accuracy
The target has ten scoring rings. The gold centre scores ten, with each outer ring worth one point less. An arrow exactly on a ring boundary takes the higher score. Missing the face or falling short scores zero.
The inner centre is an X. It still scores ten points and helps break a tie. The game records where each arrow lands; open Stats to review your arrows and totals.
Ends and clocks
An end is a group of arrows. Outside Speed, complete your share of the end, then watch the other players' arrows before the next end starts. Pass and play takes turns on one device.
Timed formats allow 40 seconds per arrow. If the clock runs out, the game releases at the current aim with an accuracy penalty. Pass and play has no per-arrow clock. Speed gives each player a separate 90-second window.
Winning and ties
The highest total leads. Equal totals are decided by more tens, then more Xs, then the single arrow nearest the centre. If the leading results still match, the game is a draw.
Elimination ranks the survivor first, followed by players who lasted longer. Players eliminated in the same round use the scoring tie-breaks above.
Game formats
Choose the format when you start your game. The available choices depend on how you play.
- TargetEighteen arrows each
- Six ends of three arrows, with changing distances and wind. Score the highest total.
- DistanceTwelve arrows each
- Three arrows at each of 20, 30, 50 and 70 metres. Available as a solo ladder and a multiplayer format.
- Speed round90 seconds per player
- Score as many arrows as you can during your own window. Players take their windows in order. Also available solo.
- Moving targetEighteen arrows each
- Six ends of three arrows at a face that moves sideways. Read the wind and lead the target.
- No windEighteen arrows each
- Six ends of three arrows at a stationary face. Distances still change, but wind is switched off.
- EliminationOne arrow per round
- Each remaining player shoots once. Everyone tied for the lowest score is eliminated, unless the whole round ties; then everyone remains. Distance starts at 20 metres and increases every two rounds through 30, 50 and 70 metres. The last player remaining wins.
